Stone statues found buried around San Augustinone of Colombia's most important archaeological sites. The Augustinian tribes disappeared without a tracesuggesting a possible annihilation by the Incas. Very little is known about the tribes' cultureas they were destroyed before the arrival of the conquistadors - some finds suggest advanced techniques such as detailed understanding of anatomyheart and brain surgeryand contact with tribes as far off as Egypt and India.
